About me

About Sophia

I haven’t outgrown my childhood habit of daydreaming. I put it to good use writing stories that I wish will give you hope, make you cry, laugh, curse out loud, and possibly snort tea from your nose. Writing is my escape and I hope reading my books will be yours.

I was born in Bombay, India before it was called Mumbai. Then I moved to the Canary Islands, Spain, then Mississauga, Canada (a suburb of Toronto) and now I call the crazy world of Washington DC, USA my home.

By day I’m a scientist, I have a doctrate in Health policy and a Masters in biostatistics. I spent nearly ten years as a paramedic.  I adore the field of public health, and continue working full time, but writing is my passion.

I have some serious wanderlust and I travel a lot (see where I’ve been below). I also make cakes (see pics below), and scuba dive. Sometimes I get talked into crazy adventures like sky diving. I’m also an avid Bollywood movie fan.

I’d love to hear from you, whether it’s to tell me you’ve fallen in love with my hero, give me ideas for how I can improve my writing, or ask me a question. Please contact me. Also sign up for my email list to be notified when I have new releases.

I'm always doing research for my books. Some crazy things I've done (in the name of research of course) is sky diving in Key West, climbed the leaning tower of Pisa (veritigo!), rode a camel in India, and went to see a bear in Vancouver.

Yum....cakes!

Baking cakes is a labor of love. I make healthy cakes which means using whole grain flour when possible, cutting out sugar and fats and replacing them with healthier options (like applesauce).  I also try a lot of eggless cakes. My family is always game for trying my creations and I have tons of fun decorating. I only use frosting because fondant is full of rubbish ingredients. If you sign up for my email list, I send out recipes. You can also find them here.

Scuba Diving

If you’re a water baby and you haven’t tried scuba diving, do it! It’s amazing to hear the quiet of the ocean and float weightlessly as you see wondrous creatures. I often use the imagery to meditate. You have to learn how to breathe, how to control your inhales and exhales. It’s an oddly relaxing and exhilarating experience. I’m still an amateur, so I haven’t been to the really cool diving places (like the Great Barrier Reef) but my favorites have been going over the coral wall in St Croix—you literally can sink forever if you’re not careful. I accidentally went down to 100 feet enjoying the view. Top second is going through “the chimney” in the British Virgin Islands—the opening looks so narrow it’s impossible to believe you’ll fit until you do.

Keep in touch! I’m a real human and I like hearing from readers.
